200 Baptisms on a Sunday afternoon
September, 2005

One hot, sunny Sunday afternoon in Punjab, North India, 200 people presented themselves for baptism. That they were even there, amidst the rising persecution across North India, was a mighty work of God. How had this come about?

In February 2004, Pastor Jossy gave a challenge at the Hindi Church Planters" Conference: "Be bold and ask the Lord for one specific thing. "

As some began to share what they were asking for in faith, Pastor Victor said,  "I am believing and asking God for 100 people to be baptised this year. "
Although everyone encouraged him, many thought this was an impossible request as he is reaching out to one of the least evangelised parts of North India.
So when he reported back at the November Conference that year, everyone rejoiced with him when they saw photos of the baptisms he had prayed for.
Pastor Victor then pleaded for the other Church Planters to pray for him;  "I believe I need to ask God to double these numbers for 2005! " So with increasing faith they stood together to pray for him.
What a privilege it was next September, almost one year later, for an Aussie team to see those 200 people gather to be baptised. The only suitable baptismal place in this community is the water tank of the local Hindu temple.
So, Pastor Victor, Jossy and five other Empart Church Planters all climbed into the water tank to begin baptising the people, seven at a time, amidst joyous songs from the onlookers.
Among those baptised was 21 year old Neetu, who was miraculously healed of cancer by the prayers of Pastor Victor and the believers. Emerging from the water, she said,  "God gave me a new life.
Now, this is God's life; today, I surrendered my life to Him. " The youngest to be baptised was 17 and the oldest was an 88 year old lady.
Three hours later there were still people waiting patiently in the queue to be baptised. Some 30 people had to wait until next opportunity as it was time for everyone to attend a special night evangelistic rally.
This combined church celebration drew together about 4,000 people. What a remarkable day, witnessing to the power of God to transform lives!
Up until now Pastor Victor has   miraculously   been able to use the Hindu temple water tank for baptisms.
Located inside the temple compound, this tank is the place where Hindu worshippers come to wash before they enter the temple.
However, because of the large impact he is having, the militant Hindus have been giving a hard time to the local Hindu temple leaders and also to Victor.
